We’re excited to spotlight our recent partnership with the gifted artist, Tim Robb, in promoting his profound new single, “Doobie”. This case study will explore how we worked alongside Tim to bring his artistic vision to life.
Tim Robb – The Artist
From what he remembers, Tim started being interested in music at the age of 10-11 years old by watching MTV and trying to rap along with artists such as 2Pac, Eminem, 50 Cent, and DMX. He began by downloading lyrics and rapping along with them, then started writing his own verses and recording on a microphone for Skype. Tim didn’t know anything about mixing or mastering, but he loved doing it. He can’t point to a specific event that made him love music, as it was a natural progression for him.
Tim reflects on how music has always been a form of therapy for him, and how it helped during a difficult time. This realization led him to pursue music as his true passion, with the resources to produce high-quality material and share it with others. Despite a rocky relationship with music, he feels that music and he are meant to be together and hope for a lasting connection hence the birth of Doobie and many other songs.
For Tim, having the opportunity to be heard is incredibly important. Despite trying to pursue his music for some time, budget constraints made it impossible. Coming from a country where the average salary is only $300 per month, it was difficult to make progress. It took years to finally get everything in order, and there were times when Tim was demotivated and considered quitting music altogether. However, he persisted and is now grateful for the chance to share his music with the world.
Doobie
Because Doobie’s subject matter and overall mood required a certain level of intoxication, Tim felt it was necessary to get high before recording. He wanted to capture the different stages of being high in the song, so he recorded each hook separately instead of copying and pasting. When Tim arrived at the studio, he was already lifted and ready to record. The process of making Doobie was enjoyable and lighthearted, with even the non-English speaking sound engineer joining in with a “do be do be do be” sing-along, which perfectly captured the desired vibe.
Tim recalls reading an interesting story about the origin of the word “doobie” and didn’t think much of it until a month later when he was getting ready to meet friends at a restaurant. He decided to smoke beforehand and while sitting on the back of a motorcycle during a long traffic light in Bangkok, he thought back to the article about “doobie.”
