Over the last month, here at Music Gateway, we have been running our Creative Cover Version Competition and we’ve been absolutely blown away with the response. From ambient takes on dance classics to emotive piano ballads, we’ve really enjoyed watching the submissions and seeing the range of creativity the artists have shown.
A cover song is a great way to express your creativity as an artist while generating interest in an already popular song. Being able to take a famous track and transform it with your own unique stamp is a skill that so many of our applicants have really shined at. So without further ado – we’re delighted to announce our top 3 Cover Lounge winners and look forward to seeing what the future holds for them…
Introducing our 1st Place Winner – James Fordham:
James Fordham is a British Singer and Performer taking inspiration from artists such as Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson. As a graduate of The Institute of Contemporary Music Performance, James studied songwriting and has been developing his skills as a writer, producer, and most importantly as an artist. His cover of Lucky Daye’s ‘Over It’ smashed our brief with a fresh take on its production and James’ silky r&b vocals gliding over the funky instrumental effortlessly. As our 1st Prize Winner, James takes home with him a FREE Artist Development session with an A-List Manager and a Free 1-year complimentary Game-Changer Music Gateway account.
Our 2nd Place Winner – Kaiak:
Kaiak‘s unique take on Selena Gomez X Kygo‘s ‘It Ain’t Me’ is the definition of chill. Filmed in the great greenery of Ulricehamn, Sweden, the pair’s acoustic cover offers a more delicate take on the tune with the video reaching almost a quarter-of-a-million views on YouTube. With the video still receiving great attention, we’re so pleased to have it as part of our competition and offer Kaiak 20% off our incredible Artist Services.
Our 3rd Place Winner – Robyn Keen:
During the pandemic, Scotland’s Robyn Keen felt inspired to do a cover of this classic dance track from Underworld after missing a year in the dance scene during the lockdown. She recorded layers of her own vocals to create chords that accompany the main vocal line. Robyn frequently shares her music on YouTube and more recently has licensed her music for use in TV, film, and advertising.
With so many incredible cover songs to choose from, it’s been a task to narrow down our winners. We’d like to personally thank everyone who has taken the time to submit their music to us over the last month and hope to see you again in our future competitions.
Finally – here are some very special mentions who didn’t make it to the Top 3:
